Photography Standard: Tips and Tricks

Use the following as helpful tips for taking badge photos:

  • Use a digital camera or cell phone camera.

  • File size should be minimum of 2 Mb.

  • Grey, or light colour background (photos with RED backgrounds will be rejected).

  • Camera directed straight at badge; no tilt or angle distortion. Using a mount will help.

  • Natural or WHITE light. A light box will help, but not 100% necessary.

  • Avoid shadows on the Badge.

  • Any type of badge, i.e. cap/hat badge, collar badge, shoulder title/badge, command badge, etc. The badge can be from any "Era"; however, must be Canadian Military.

When emailing a badge photo (cmc.books.acfw@gmail.com):

  • Send the image Full Sized, don't have the email program "Reduce file size."

  • Height and Width measurements in mm or cm; dependent on badge size.

  • Name of contributor.

  • All images provided will receive citation in the "List of Contributors." Provide if/how you'd like to be cited as a contributor.
